Kerry’s Flock

One of the great things about making shirts to commission is that sometimes customers spot a fabric I’ve overlooked. This subtle, beautifully drawn, feathery beauty was spotted on the Liberty website by a customer in Australia. It’s called ‘Kerry’s Flock’. No idea why! She wanted a rounded yoke shape and a fitted style. We added lots of piping to give definition and brought out the yellow – it’s her favourite colour – with palest yellow pearl snaps. It’s winging its way to the other side of the world right now!

New fabric arrives!

I always love when new fabric arrives!
I’ve been looking forward to making up this red/white/black paisley ever since I bought it a couple of months ago. Liberty brought it out for the London Olympics, and there’s a tiny laurel wreath in the design. I’ve had it in mind to mix it up with this tiny black and white print, Glenjade.
Over the summer I’ve made some great women’s shirts to commission, so this will be the first shirt I’ve added to the men’s collection for a while and I’m really looking forward to it… musing over whether to go for a contrast yoke, or to use the Glenjade in tiny touches…

1960s women’s shirt pattern

A rainy, windy lunchtime and I’m stuck indoors. The temptation to browse vintage patterns on etsy was too great! And look what I found – this sweet 60s women’s shirt pattern in a size 34″ bust. For some reason, women’s patterns of this age are almost always  tiny, so it was great to find one that was almost my size! It’s so neat-looking, and I love that short sleeve. Just what Betty Draper of Mad Men would wear if she went on a ranch vacation!
